Fourah Bay College (1st half 19th century)

Fourah Bay is a Town on the East End of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Fourah Bay is known for its rich Islamic culture and deeply religious people. It is home to Sierra Leone's biggest and West Africa's oldest university, the Fourah Bay College, founded in 1827 to which it gives its name. It is also the dynamic and unique home of the Oku people or Aku Muhammadan people. Some notable Oku families in Fourah Bay include the Alharazim, Macauley family, Alghali family, the Dean family, the Mahdi family, Lewally family, the Cole family, the Rahman family, the Bakarr family, the Savage family, the Ibrahim Family and many other families.
