Franz Gapp (8 July 1919 – 8 September 2015) was an Oberfeldwebel in the Luftwaffe during World War II, and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Gapp died in September 2015 at the age of 96.[1][2]

Career

Gapp completed 400 missions in the Ju-88 fighter-bomber in IV./LG-1, III./KG (J)-6 and ended up flying the Me-262, scoring several aerial victories over B-24s and downed one P-38 Lightning
