Freddie Stroma (born 8 January 1987) is an English actor, model and singer, best known for playing Cormac McLaggen in the Harry Potter film series. He will also star in the upcoming U.S. television series UnREAL that will premiere on Lifetime in June 2015.

Early life and education

Freddie Stroma was born Frederic Wilhelm Sjostrom[1][2] on 8 January 1987 in London, England, to a Swedish father and a German mother. He was raised in the nearby town Ascot.[3] He was educated at the Public boys'-only boarding school Radley College[4] and was the middle child of three with an older sister and a younger brother. Whilst undertaking a degree in Neuroscience at University College London,[4] Freddie's film and modelling career began to flourish, leading him to take a break from his academic studies so that he could appear as Cormac McLaggen in the film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Following filming, Stroma returned to University College London to complete his degree, claiming that it "would have been a shame to just throw it away".[5] In 2009, he attained a 2:1 BSc (an upper-second-class degree) in Neuroscience.[4][6]

Career

Acting

Stroma was accepted into the highly prestigious National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, which led to various acting roles.[3] He played small parts on a string of British TV shows, including Casualty and BBC's Mayo before being cast as Cormac McLaggen in the film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He attended various premieres for the film throughout the globe.[5] He was later cast as Cool Brett in the crime-thriller film 4.3.2.1. He was later recast in the Harry Potter series in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2. He later appeared in the direct to DVD film A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song, as a British student, Luke Morgan, and played a minor role in Pitch Perfect, a 2012 comedy about the world of collegiate a cappella.

He was also cast in the psychological thriller After the Dark with his former Harry Potter co-star Bonnie Wright.[7]

Modeling

Besides acting, Stroma modelled for Acne Underwear in their Fall/Winter 2008 Collection.[8]

Other

As a part of his acting, Stroma showcased his talents in music while singing in Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song. He also dabbles with guitar but has never been professionally trained in either.[9]
