Gautam Biswas (Template:Lang-hi, born: 23 May 1956) is a distinguished professor and currently (2013 onwards) the director of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.[1][2] Biswas has done Masters and PhD from IIT Kharagpur. A faculty at IIT Kanpur, he has served as the Dean (Academics) in IIT Kanpur. [3] He is the Fellow of various prestigious and scholastic academies of national and international repute. Founder Director of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Prof Biswas is the author of more than 150 technical publications and guided 15 PhD theses. In 2011, he was awarded the esteemed J C Bose National Fellowship by the department of science and technology, government of India.[4]
Academics
Prof. Biswas completed his Baccalaureate in Mechanical Engineering from University of Calcutta (IIEST, Shibpur) in 1979. In the year 2013, he was bestowed with the Distinguish Alumni Award of BESU (currently IIEST, Shibpur) by the Hon’ble President of India. He completed his MTech and PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 1981 and 1985 respectively.

- Best Paper Award, M.G. Deshpande Memorial Prize at the National Conference on Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power held at IIT Kharagpur, January 5-7, 2000 for the paper entitled Transition to Chaos in Two-Dimensional Flow Past a Square Cylinder (with A.K. Saha and K. Muralidhar).
