Gazela is a planned natural gas pipeline in the Czech Republic.

Route

The pipeline would connect of the north Bohemian town of Hora Svaté Kateřiny and German town of Waidhaus. These are natural gas border delivery stations by which Russian gas is transported from the Czech Republic to Germany. It is planned to connect Gazela also to the OPAL pipeline, a planned connection pipeline to Nord Stream.[1]

There were three possible route options with the length from 166 to 235 kilometres (103 to 146 mi).[2] It was to decided to construct the pipeline in the 166-kilometre (103 mi) long route along the existing gas pipelines. The pipeline will divert from the existing pipelines only in the MladoticeChomutov section. The pipeline is expected ro become operational by 2011.[3]

Development

The pipeline will be constructed and operated by RWE Transgas, the RWE daughter company in the Czech Republic. The project would cost around €400 million.[4] The feasibility study and the environmental impact assessment of the project are finished.[2][3]
