The Geared for Giving Campaign launched at the House of Commons of the United Kingdom on 19 May 2008 by Anne Snelgrove, MP for South Swindon and Duncan Bannatyne OBE.[1]

The Geared for Giving Campaign intends to raise awareness of Workplace Giving with UK business leaders. Workplace Giving (also known Payroll giving or Give As You Earn ) is a scheme of making charitable tax-efficient donations by giving directly from payroll.

Currently over 750,000 employees give to charity through the system.

CEO of lastminute.com Ian McCaig and Martin Narey of Barnardos were among the Business and Charity Leaders backing the campaign

The first Anniversary of the Campaign was celebrated on 5 May 2009 at Portcullis House.[2]

The Campaign gathered together four of the previous The Apprentice (TV series) contestants to help set a challenge for the business leaders of the future.

Syed Ahmed, Raef Bjayou, Tre Azam and Kristina Grimes all attended the first Anniversary of the Campaign to help spread the word about Workplace Giving.

Kavita Oberoi and Carl Hopkins, from Channel 4's Secret Millionaire, joined the former Apprentices to add their support to the Campaign.

Leading Entrepreneurs Safia Minney, Laura Tennison, Karen Darby and Margaret Manning attended the event

Harpal Kumar, Chief Executive of Cancer Research UK spoke at the Anniversary event

The Campaign has already raised pledged sums of £678,054.52 annually for 1082 different charities and given an extra half a million people easy access to the scheme.
