George Montegu Black (1875–1959) was father of George Montegu Black II and grandfather to Conrad Black.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Black's father George Anderson Black was an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company and immigrant from New England. The Black family spent time in Halifax before moving to Winnipeg in 1882.

He worked in real estate and insurance:

Black made his mark in creating Western Breweries Limited in 1927 (bought from E. L. Drewry as Drewry's Breweries) and retired in 1950.

Black died in 1959 and buried at St. John's Cemetery in Winnipeg.[1]
