Unterseeboot 523 or U-523 was a German World War II Type IXC submarine commissioned on 25 June 1942. U-523 served with 4. Unterseebootflottille for training and later served operationally with 10. Unterseebootflottille from 1 February 1943 until she was sunk. U-523 completed four patrols, and sunk one ship totalling 5,848 Gross Registered Tonnage.

U-523 was sunk on 25 August 1943 west of Vigo, Spain by depth charges from the destroyer HMS Wanderer and the corvette HMS Wallflower. 17 of U-523’s crew were killed and 37 survived the attack.
