Gheorghe Vrabie

Vrabie designed the coat of arms of Chișinău, the capital of Moldova.

Gheorge Vrabie (21 March 1939 – 31 March 2016) was a Moldovan artist. Born in Călinești, Fălești, he designed the coat of arms of Moldova, the coat of arms of Chișinău, and the Moldovan leu. He studied at the "Ilya Repin" Leningrad Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (now Imperial Academy of Arts) in what is now Saint Petersburg from 1962 to 1967. In 2010, he was made a knight of the Order of the Republic, Moldova's highest honour.[1]
