Gil Shwed (Hebrew: גיל שוויד, fl. c. 2000) is an Israeli programmer and entrepreneur. He is the founder, CEO and chairman of board of Check Point Software Technologies Ltd.[1]

In 1993, Shwed invented and patented stateful inspection.[1] Most of the currently used technologies are similar to it.[citation needed] After serving in the army he with two Check Point co-founders used his experience in the Israel Defense Forces's Unit 8200[2] to write the first version of FireWall-1 which was released in 1994.

In June 2005 Shwed received an honorary Doctor of science from the Technion.[3]
