Gorteens Castle is located on private land in Co. Kilkenny near the village of Slieverue close to Waterford city.

The ruin consists of a gatehouse that would have belonged to a larger structure.[1]

It was originally the property of the FitzGerald family,[2] a powerful Anglo-Norman aristocratic dynasty in medieval Ireland. John FitzGerald is recorded as being the last FitzGerald holder of Gorteens[3] and forfeited it during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland.
