Graft is an album by the Japanese noise musician Merzbow.[1] The recording was inspired by the plant illustrations in the Voynich manuscript, and the design was inspired by a 1970s Jethro Tull bootleg called My God.[2] The artwork for Hiranya was also inspired by a Jethro Tull album.
An unreleased work called "samidara1" was played during an event at ohrenhoch in Berlin, Merzbow described it as "using the method of several granular synthesis programs and random process of the composition.", and referenced Graft, Chabo, Jigokuhen, and Ouroboros as having the same concept.[3]
The LP is pressed on lime green vinyl, and comes in a plain white sleeve stamped with the name "Merzbow" and sealed with a sticker featuring the album notes. The first 150 mail order copies include a bonus 7" (on black vinyl). It was deleted when it sold out and will never be reissued on CD.[4]
