Gregory Thane Wyler (born 12 November 1969)[not verified in body] is an American tech entrepreneur, engineer, and inventor. He is the founder and executive chairman of OneWeb[1] and the founder of O3b Networks.

Business Ventures

Wyler spent four years developing telecommunications in Africa in rural locations. In 2003,[2] he built a local team and connected over 200 schools to the Internet, providing the first 3G and fiber to the home connections on the continent.[3]

In 2007, he founded O3b Networks, Ltd.[1] The idea[clarification needed] was first conceived in 2005 while working on a project to provide a nationwide telephone service in rural Rwanda, attempting to wire the post-war and economically shattered country.[4] Today, O3b has launched 12 satellites, and the system provides the highest capacity and lowest latency combination of any satellites built to date.[5][non-primary source needed]

In 2012,[6] Wyler founded OneWeb with the mission of “enabling Internet access for everyone.”[7]

On August 1, 2016, satellite operator SES completed the acquisition of O3b.[8]

Awards and Recognition

In 2015, Wyler received the Arthur C. Clarke award for Innovation[9] and the 2B AHEAD Innovators Award.[10] He has been[when?] named one of the top 50 global influencers of technology.[citation needed]
