Guiyu is an extinct genus of bony fish, and is the earliest known one. It lived during the Late Silurian (419 million years ago) in China.[1] It has the combination of both actinopterygian and sarcopterygian features, although analysis of the totality of its features place it closer to Sarcopterygii.[2]

Name

Guiyu represents Mandarin 鬼鱼 guǐyú "ghost fish." The specific name oneiros is from Greek ὄνειρος "dream."
