History

The stadium was built in the beginning of the 1930s in the Haï El-Louz district of Oran under the name of the Stade Alenda, it was renovated on 19 December 1948 and changed the name to Stade Vincent Monréal with a capacity of 20,000 spectators, making it the biggest stadium of Oran at the time. After the independence of Algeria it was renamed Stade Habib Bouakeul in commemoration of Habib Bouakeul, a martyr of Algeria War. It was equipped with artificial turf (3rd generation) to replace natural grass unfortunately in poor condition in the 2000th and 5th generation in 2013. The stadium hosts the football club of ASM Oran.
