This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Good Olfactory (talk | contribs) at 03:22, 17 April 2008 (Quick-adding category "American female murderers" (using HotCat)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Hannah Ocuish was executed at the age of twelve years and nine months, being hanged on 20 December, 1786, in New London, Connecticut. An apparently retarded Pequot Indian girl, Hannah was accused of killing the young daughter of a prominent white family after quarreling with her over some strawberries. The primary evidence against her was her confession to the investigators, leaving open some questions as to her actual guilt. At her execution she displayed great fear but remained polite, thanking the sheriff for his kindnesses to her as she stepped forward to be hanged.

Various websites mistakenly report the name of this girl as Hannah Omish and report the year of her death as 1876.
