The Hesse state election, 1999, was conducted on 7 February 1999, to elect members to the Landtag (state legislature) of Hesse.

Post-election

The "red-green coalition" from Prime Minister Hans Eichel (SPD) lost its majority, so the Landtag elected Roland Koch (CDU) as new Prime Minister. He built up a coalition with the FDP, to form the new government.
