Ho Yu College and Primary School is a all-through school located in Tung Chung, Lantau Island, Hong Kong.

The school was founded in 1997 by Sik Sik Yuen, the management organization of Wong Tai Sin Temple, a famous temple in Hong Kong. The school is the fifth secondary school founded by Sik Sek Yuan and the all-through school founded by this organization.

In addition, Sik Sik Yuen and the Hong Kong Biological Education Resource Center jointly established the first biotechnology teaching and research laboratory in Hong Kong. The laboratory has facilities and professional support reaching the level of a university laboratory. It was opened in 2004 by Professor Tsui Lap-chi, President of the University of Hong Kong.

History[edit]

The Hong Kong government announced the Hong Kong Airport Core Program in 1989 for the construction of the new Hong Kong International Airport and its supporting infrastructure in Chek Lap Kok, Lantau Island. Tung Chung New Town - Phase 1 was a major part of the plan. In order to support the government's expansion of Tung Chung New Town, Sik Sik Yuen opened its fifth secondary school in Tung Chung New Town in 1997,[1] named Ho Yu College, together with Po Leung Kuk Madam Ma Kam Ming Chang Fook Sin Secondary School, are the first secondary schools to be opened in the new town, providing secondary school services for the first group of residents who moved into the Tung Chung New Town

From 1997 to 2003, the school only had a secondary section, and the school was temporarily located in a building in Fu Tung Estate, Tung Chung. In 2003, the school added a primary section and became an all-through school, and relocated to a group of millennium school buildings at the current site of Kin Tung Road, Tung Chung.

School facilities, co-curricular activities, student unions, various types of competitions, school calendars, class timetables, and even teaching staff are shared by the primary and secondary schools. Primary school students adapt to the teaching environment of secondary schools as early as possible, which also facilitates teaching staff to become familiar with students' needs, so as to smoothly connect the two levels of primary and secondary schools.

In addition to the through-train format for primary school students to directly advance to the secondary school,[2] they can also choose to go to other secondary schools through self-admission and centralized allocation. Primary school graduates have attended other secondary schools including Diocesan Girls' School and St. Margaret's Co-educational English Secondary School. As for secondary school graduates, they are admitted to tertiary institutions such as the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong every year

Biotechnology Teaching and Research Section[edit]

Middle School Building

In order to promote biotechnology education, the school sponsoring organization Sik Sik Yuen and the Hong Kong Biological Education Resource Center jointly established Hong Kong's first biotechnology teaching and research laboratory built on the campus of a primary and secondary school with equipment reaching the level of a university laboratory. Professional technical guidance is provided by the Hong Kong Biological Education Resource Center.

The teaching and research section was opened and opened on April 22, 2004, by Professor Xu Laizhi, President of the University of Hong Kong. It has held many training courses and expert lectures for principals and biology teachers in Hong Kong, as well as organized a number of biology courses for all students in Hong Kong. Science and technology education activities inspire and strengthen the public, especially the younger generation, to learn and understand biotechnology knowledge.

In order to further strengthen the popularization of biotechnology education, Sik Sik Yuen and the Hong Kong Biology Education Resource Center have collaborated again to convert a 12-meter-long tourist bus into Asia's first mobile biotechnology laboratory - Sik Sik Yuen Biotechnology Mobile. The laboratory was officially opened on April 24, 2009, and visited primary and secondary schools in all districts in Hong Kong to provide biotechnology education services to primary and secondary school students in each district.
