Holmlia railway station is a stop on the Østfold Line in the district of Holmlia, in southern Oslo, Norway. The station is between Hauketo to the north (inbound) and Rosenholm to the south (outbound). It is located 10.2 km from Oslo Central Station. The station is classified as a "holdeplass" (train stop), rather than as a full station by Norwegian National Rail Administration. The station was opened in 1932, and received a considerable overhaul in 1982.
In 1988, the station's architect company, NSB arkitektkontor (run by Arne Henriksen), was awarded Christian Houen's diploma for good architecture,[1] one of Norway's most prestigious architectural awards.[2]
The station is located next to the 'Holmlia senter' shopping centre, and is also a node for bus lines.
Service
The station is served by line L2, the local train Stabekk Station to Ski Station which generally goes every 30 minutes. Travel time into Oslo is about 12-13 minutes.
In terms of passenger numbers, the station at Holmlia serves amongst Norway's largest. However, the train frequency is considerably lower than the 15-minute headway found on Oslo Metro lines elsewhere in the city. As a consequence, trains can be quite crowded during peak hours, and buses to Holmlia have been implemented to alleviate this. Calls have been made for more frequent train service.[3][4]
