Hopkin Bevan
Appearance
Hopkin Bevan (1765 - 1839) as a Calvinistic Methodist minister and writer. His parents were Rees and Mary Bevan of Gellifwnwr (or Cilfwnwr), Llangyfelach. As aboy he attended Llangyfelach school, and later received education Swansea. He initially joined the Methodists in Gopa Fach in 1788, trained as a preacher, and was ordained in Llandilo in 1811.
His written works include; 'Ychydig Hanes neu Goffawdwriaeth' (Abertawy, E. Griffiths, 1838), 'Hymnau a Phenillion' (hymns) (Abertawy ,E. Griffiths ,1838), and his autobiography, published by his son in 1840.
He died in 1839, and was buried in the aisle of Bethel chapel, Llangyfelach. [1]
