Etymology

The name is probably derived from Czech name for springs (studénky). The adjectivum "Horní" (Upper) was created later to make it more recognizable from another close settlement also called Studénky which holds the name "Dolní" (Lower) today.

Historical names

The village was called Studenky, Studinky or Studynky.

History

The first note about the village comes from 1518, but the village is probably older because a note from 1531 referres about parish church and parisch churches were situated in locally older settlements. It is speculated that original village's name was Odendorf and was later renamed for unknown reason.
