This is a list of competitions played by Houston Dynamo involving international clubs, from 2006 (when the San Jose Earthquakes players and coaches were relocated to Houston) to the most recent completed season.

The Dynamo have had a recent run of competition against international clubs for the two years following their inaugural season. By virtue of their MLS Cup victories, the Dynamo have entered prestigious competitions like the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the North American SuperLiga. During the 2008 season, the Dynamo participated in the inaugural Pan-Pacific Championship, held in Honolulu, Hawaii as well as in the inaugural CONCACAF Champions League competition.

During the 2009 season, the Dynamo played in the knockout stages of the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League and the group stage of 2009-10 competition, qualifying as runners-up for the 2009 MLS Supporters' Shield.

During the 2009 MLS season, for the first time in its four-year history, Houston did not qualify for the next CONCACAF club championship despite finishing tied for second for the Supporters' Shield. The Dynamo are expected to compete in the 2010 North American SuperLiga for the third time in four years as the highest-placed club not to qualify for CONCACAF play.
