Dr Ian Birkby (birth registered third ¼ 1961) is an English former professional rugby league footballer of the 1970s and 1980s. He played at club level for Castleford, Oldham, York, and Doncaster (Heritage № 554),[2] as a stand-off/five-eighth, i.e. number 6.[1][3][4][5]

Background

Ian Birkby's birth was registered in Pontefract district, West Riding of Yorkshire, he was a member of the Knottingley Town junior cricket team in the I970s, he has first class honours B.Sc degree in Engineering Metallurgy from the University of Salford, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Ceramics and Tribology from the University of Leeds, he emigrated to New South Wales, Australia, he is a supporter of Leeds United F.C., and plays for Avalon Soccer Club (over-45's),[1] scoring the deciding goal in extra time in the 3-2 victory in the 2011 champions final, he is currently the Chief executive officer of AZoNetwork.[2]
