The Independence Day of Mongolia (Mongolian: Монгол Улсын тусгаар тогтнол) is the main state holiday in Mongolia. This date is celebrated annually on 29 December. It marks Mongolia's independence from China in 1921. It has been celebrated annually in Mongolia since 2011. Independence Day is also the term used for Constitution Day on November 26.

Background

After the Xinhai Revolution in China in May 1911, the Qing dynasty was overthrown and Mongolia under the Bogd Khan declared its independence on December 29, 1911.[1][2] The newly established Republic of Mongolia lasted for 8 years until it was invaded by the Republic of China in 1919 and by Russia in early 1921.[3][4]
