The Indian national badminton team participated in the 2011 BWF World Championships held at Wembley Arena in London, England from August 8 to August 14, 2011. It was the 19th tournament of the BWF World Championships, an annual event considered prestigious in the calendar of badminton. The tournament is organized by the world governing body of badminton Badminton World Federation (BWF).[7]

Tournament

BWF World Championships is an annual tournament, occurring every year except the year in which Summer Olympic Games are celebrated, as in this year Olympics gold medal is considered to be the world title. The tournament was first held in 1977 in Malmö, Sweden and celebrated every three years until 1983, after which, it became a biennial event, and played once every two years until 2005. Since 2006, the tournament has become an annual event.[8]
