Installation is a Christian liturgical act that formally inducts an incumbent into a new role in a particular place such as a cathedral. To be installed as Bishop- installations of Bishops, at least within Catholicism, are only done for those who oversee an (arch-)diocese, not for coadjutor or auxiliary bishops- of a diocese or archdiocese, or the local Ordinary, the Bishop-elect designated by the Pope's bull, or formal document, of appointment must first be ordained, or consecrated, as a Bishop, in the same Mass or in one beforehand, by at least one but preferably three licitly and validly ordained Bishops. The term arises from the act of symbolically leading the incumbent to their stall or throne within the cathedral (the word "cathedral" literally means seat of the cathedra, or Bishop's throne), or other place of worship.[1] Within the Anglican tradition it is commonly used when inaugurating a new Dean or Canon.
