Ipumbu Wendelinus Shiimi is a Namibian economist who is currently the governor of the Bank of Namibia[1] since 2010 [2], he took over from Tom Alweendo who became the Minister in the Presidency in charge of the National Planning Commission of Namibia.
Career
Shiimi holds a Master of Science degree in Finance from 1998, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics ( Economic Principles ) from 1995, from the University of London. He also holds a Diploma in Foreign Trade and Management from the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands, an Honors degree in Economics from the University of Western Cape in South Africa and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of Western Cape.
Shiimi started working at the Namibia Economic Policy Research Unit (NEPRU) in 1994. He has worked in the central bank since 1995, and was in November 2006 to Governor, responsible for managing foreign exchange reserves, banking supervision, economic stability and financial monitoring. He was appointed as a new central bank chief on March 25, 2010, by President Hifikepunye Pohamba. He then took over Tom Alweendo, who went to the post of president of Namibia's National Planning Commission.[3][4]
