Jaxa was a state in 17th century with a capital in Albazino.
Name
Name of the country descended from a wooden stronghold of Jaxa built by Nikifor Chernigovsky in a place of Albazino that was destroyed by Chinese troops.[1] According to Chinese sources, this place was called 雅克萨 (yakesa) before a rise of Albazino.
History
The state was created by Nikifor Chernigovsky, Polish deportee from Volhynia. In 1665 Chernigovsky and Siberian Cossacks killed a voivod of Ust-Ilimsk. Then, they rebuilt an abandoned stronghold of Abazino to hide in it. The stronghold became a capital of their new state. In 1685 Jaxa became a part of Chinese Empire.
