Jefferson Healthcare Hospital is a 25 bed critical access public hospital located in Port Townsend, Washington. Established in 1890 as St. John's Hospital, it is now part of Jefferson Healthcare, and affiliated with Swedish Health Network.[1][2]

History

The hospital was founded in 1890 as St. John's Hospital, by the Sisters of Providence.[3][4] In 1975, Jefferson County acquired control of the hospital, and in 1985 was it renamed Jefferson General Hospital.[1] In 2004, the hospital was renamed Jefferson Healthcare Hospital because the organization included not only the hospital, but also a number of community clinics.[3][4]

In May 2013, the hospital revealed plans for a new 50,000-square-foot (4,600 m2) emergency and specialty services building.[5] The project is estimated to cost between $15 and 20 million, and broke ground to begin renovations in June of 2015.[5]

Services

The hospital operates a level IV trauma center, and is the sole hospital in Jefferson County. It is designated as a critical access hospital.[6][3]
