Jenny Hoyston

Jenny Hoyston is the vocalist, guitarist, and trumpeter of the San Francisco, CA, USA political punk and no wave band Erase Errata and the Houston, TX damaged funk and psych band Vacation Eyes. She also works as a solo artist and with William Elliott Whitmore under the monikers Paradise Island and Hallways of Always respectively.

Biography

Hoyston began her road and recording career in 1994 as the bassist and back-up vocalist for Michigan-based all-Women punk band day twenty-eight and appears on PEEP, the 1995 Youth Rendition Records release by the band.

After relocating to San Francisco, Hoyston formed noise-rock duo California Lightening with future Erase Errata drummer Bianca Sparta in 1997. California Lightening released several singles on Troubleman Unlimited and appeared on releases by Mr. Lady Records and other labels. The band released a split 7" with fellow San Franciscan band Sic. Alps, gaining attention partially as a result of scandal over fully nude images of members of both bands on the record's artwork.

In 1999 Hoyston joined Darkwave quintet Subtonix (Troubleman Records) and appears on one 7" release by the all-Women band. Later that same year she formed Erase Errata with Sara Jaffe, Ellie Erickson and Sparta after an impromptu jam session at Club Hott, the all-ages showspace/warehouse Hoyston and Sparta inhabited with Seth Bogart (Gravy Train, Hunx & His Punks) and Luis Illades (Panzy Division, Avengers). Other Erase Errata members have included Christina Files, Weasel Walter, Eric Bauer and Archie McKay. Erase Errata toured the U.S., Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand from 2000 until 2008, and continues to release EPs and LPs every few years. Their most recent release was the Lost Weekend (2015) on their own label Under The Sun.

In 2007 Jenny Hoyston's Isle of solo LP received favorable reviews in Rolling Stone and other publications upon its release. In 2010, Hoyston was named one of the 50 most important queer women musicians by AfterEllen.com. [1]

In addition to her work on stage and in the studio, Hoyston produces the annual, women-centered FABULOSA Fest for charity in Yosemite, CA. She currently lives in Austin, TX.

Musical Style

Erase Errata typically features no wave and angular punk styles. With the Paradise Island solo project Hoyston explores different sounds including off-kilter rock and pop, lo-fi electronica and folk.[2]
