Joseph Pera (born c. 1988/1989)[1] is an American comedian, writer and actor based in New York City.[1]
Early life
Joe Pera was born in Buffalo, New York, where he claims to be "familiar with the trees up there." He studied film at Ithaca College, where he competed and won the college’s stand-up competition three times.[2] After that, he moved to New York City to pursue comedy and would attend open microphone nights as often as possible.[3]
Career
Known for his slow, "grandfather"-like delivery and his penchant for wearing sweaters, Pera created the Adult Swim's Infomercial Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep. This was followed by an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and another stand-alone Adult Swim special entitled Joe Pera Helps You Find the Perfect Christmas Tree.[4] Thanks to the success of those programs (all produced by his company Chestnut Walnut),[5] Pera developed a television series for Adult Swim, which premiered on May 20, 2018, entitled Joe Pera Talks with You.[3]
Personal life
Pera is a self-proclaimed Buffalo Bills fan and incorporates this fact into his comedy.[3]
