Richard John Hughes (born July 3, 1965 in Swansea, Wales) is a Canadian soccer player. John moved to Victoria, BC, Canada in 1971. John played for Cadboro Bay which later became Bays United soccer club. John went to Mount Douglas Secondary School where he played on a soccer team with notable teammates Jeff Mallett and Simon Keith.

John represented Canada at the 1982 CONCACAF Youth Tournament in Guatemala and won his first cap with Canada's senior team on 27 August 1986 at the Merlion Cup in Singapore.[1] John played for the University of Victoria Vikings and was part of the 1987 national winning side. John played professionally for the Victoria Vistas of the Canadian Soccer League.

John's father Brian Hughes was also a professional soccer player.

John now works as a high school teacher in Armstrong, BC.
