America's Strongest Man
2nd 2002

Johnny Wade Perry Jr. (October 24, 1972 – November 21, 2002) was a professional strongman competitor from Zebulon, North Carolina, USA. Perry finished fourth in the 2002 World's Strongest Man competition.[1]

Death

A few months after the 2002 World's Strongest Man Championship, Perry died abruptly on November 21, 2002, from a cocaine overdose and an enlarged heart. He was ranked fourth in the world by the International Federation of Strength Athletes at the time of his death.[2]

Perry's off-season weight was a gargantuan 375-390 lbs., trimming down to the 340-350 lbs. range for strongman competitions. Observers stated that he was the most massive human being they'd ever seen.

Perry was making rapid progress as a strongman competitor and many thought that he would be the next world champion.
