Jon Taffer (born November 7, 1954) is a bar consultant, television personality, and author, best known as host of the reality series Bar Rescue on Spike.

Personal life

Taffer graduated from William A. Shine Great Neck South High School in Great Neck, New York in 1972 and, after a short time at the University of Denver studying political science, he relocated to Los Angeles.[1][2]

Career

Taffer reported his first bar management job was at The Troubadour night club in West Hollywood in 1978, and he opened his first bar as owner in 1989.[3] Taffer is credited for "inventing" the concept that became the NFL Sunday Ticket while serving a three-year term on the board of NFL Enterprises .[4] Taffer has also been behind innovative bar practices such as the "butt funnel," a narrow entry to a dance area intended to increase customer interaction. [5] In 2010, he was appointed as president of the Nightclub and Bar Media Group, a division of Questex Media Group, which is responsible for Nightclub & Bar Magazine as well as the annual Nightclub & Bar Convention and Trade Show.[6] Taffer has hosted the reality television series Bar Rescue since its premiere in 2011, and his first book, Raise the Bar, was published in October 2013.[7] He is one of the first six inductees in the Nightclub Hall of Fame.[8]
