Josef William Wegner (born October 1967) is an American Egyptologist[1] and Associate Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania,[2] where he obtained his doctorate in Egyptology. He is noted for his continued research at Abydos, where he discovered the tomb of pharaoh Sobekhotep I in 2013. He is the son of astrophysicist Gary Wegner.
