Joseph M. Giglio (born September 12, 1954) is a New York State Assemblyman from the 148th district, which includes all of Cattaraugus County, southern Allegany County and the easternmost towns and villages in Chautauqua County. He is a registered Republican.
Education
Giglio received a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Political career
Early in his career, Giglio served as a special assistant to then-New York State Attorney General Dennis Vacco, as an employee of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department, responsible for coordinating efforts with all branches of government.[3][4]
Following this, Giglio served as Deputy Inspector General. In this position, he conducted investigations of alleged criminal activity, fraud, and abuse by individuals and company officials who deal with state agencies in a region stretching from Buffalo to Syracuse to the Pennsylvania border.
Giglio ascended to the New York State Assembly due to a series of events following the death of former New York State Assemblywoman and Senator Patricia McGee, defeating Cattaraugus County legislator Carmen Vecchiarella in a special election on June 28, 2005.[5] He won re-election in 2006 over Cattaraugus County legislator Linda Witte[6] and again in 2008 over Allegany County supervisor Patrick Eaton.[7] He faced Travis Lecceadone in the 2010 general election.[8]
Personal life
Giglio and his wife, Ann Marie, reside in the village of Gowanda, New York with three of their children, while a grown son[2] resides in nearby Salamanca.
