Joseph M. Tierney (died December 13, 2009 in Hyde Park, Boston) was an American politician who served as a member of the Boston City Council from 1972 to 1987. He was the President of the City Council in 1977, 1979 and 1983-1985. He was a candidate for Mayor of Boston in 1987, losing to incumbent Raymond Flynn 67–33%.[1]

His daughter is the actress Maura Tierney.
