In this Indian name, the name "Kannapan" is a patronymic, not a family name, and the person should be referred to by the given name, "Ponmudi".


K. Ponmudi(Real Name Deivasigamani K) was the minister for Higher Education in Tamil Nadu state of India during 2006-2011.[1] He was born in T. Edaiyar on 19-August-1950 in Villupuram District. He has a bachelor's degree in Law, a master's degree in History, Political Science and Public Administration and a Doctorate in Political Science. He is an alumunus of Annamalai University.[2] Before entering professional politics, he was working as a professor in the Villupuram government college. He has been elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly four times. During 1989 - 1991 DMK rule he was the Minister for Health and during 1996 - 2001 Minister for Transport & Highways[3][4] He authored a book titled Dravidian Movement in India and Black Movement in the U.S.A.[5]
