KIS Yangmu (양무호,揚武號) was the first battleship of the Korean Empire Armed Forces. It was purchased by the empire from Mitsui Corporation with 1,100,000 Korean Won, or 550,000 Japanese Yen. This was about 30% of the total military budget of the Korean Empire. The battleship, however, was not as efficient as it looked because it was previously used as a cargo ship by the British since its construction in 1881. For the reasons above, another battleship was ordered to be constructed for a more efficient battleship- the KIS Guangjae.
