Kagodu Thimmappa is a Congress MLA elected from the Sagar Constituency. He became the Speaker of the 14th Karnataka Legislative Assembly on May 31, 2013.[1]

Early life and education

Sri Kagodu Thimmappa was Born on 10th September, 1932 in Kagodu, Sagar Taluk, Karnataka, 18 km from Sagar Town. He was the 3rd son of Savaji Beera Nayaka and Byramma. He completed his primary education in near by Hirenallur and High school studies in Sagar.Then he took B.Com., B.L. Degrees in Bangalore. He worked as a lawyer in Sagar for some time.
Originally he is an agriculturist by profession. Dr.Rama Manohar Lohia , Jeorge Fernandes , Gopala gowda and other socialist leaders influenced him since his younger days. [2]

Political career

He was Interested in Social Service. He was a Member of Taluk Board From1961; he worked as the President, Taluk Board from 1967 to 1974;
was Member of Fifth Legislative Assembly,
was Member of Legislative Council in 1980;
Serverd as Minister for Food and Forest, In Sri Gundu Rao Ministry; then was Minister of Public Works in 1980.
Founder President, Sanjay Polytechnic, Sagar. (2 terms). Founder President, Janata Educational Society;
was Member of 9th Legislative Assembly.
was Chairman, Karnataka Housing Board.
Served as Minister for Social Welfare; [3]
Elected to 10th Legislative Assembly.
Re-Elected to 11th Assembly from Sagar Constituency in 1999 and appointed as Minister for Social Welfare in the Council of Ministers headed by Shri. S.M. Krishna on 17-10-99;
Elected to 14th Legislative Assembly from "Sagar" Constituency and unanimously elected as Hon`ble Speaker on 31st May, 2013. [4]
