Kallang Basin
Kallang Basin refers to both a water body in Kallang, Singapore, as well as the river basin that includes the Kallang River, Geylang River, Rochor River, Sungei Whampoa, Bukit Timah Second Diversion Canal, and Pelton Canal. These six canalized rivers empty into the Kallang Basin near the Merdeka Bridge, and drain about one-sixth of Singapore's total land area.
Kallang Basin is notable for being the site of the Singapore Sports Hub, as well as the old Kallang Airport and Kallang Gasworks.
Prior to extensive land reclamation, the Kallang Basin area formed part of Singapore's southeastern coastline. In 1977, a massive ten-year-long clean-up project was embarked by the Singapore Government at the Kallang Basin and the nearby Singapore River. Today, the Kallang Basin, together with the six rivers/canals that empty into it, form part of the Marina Reservoir.
