The Karan Kayastha are a community of Kayastha that inhabit the Mithila region of Bihar, India and some adjoining districts of the Terai region of Nepal. They traditionally worked in administrative positions (holding high posts in government offices and royal courts), clerical positions or as teachers.[1]

They commonly use the surname Karn or Karan.[2]
