Lake Kezenoy-am (Lake Goluboye, Russian: Кезенойам, Голубое; Chechen: Къоьзана Iaм) is the deepest lake in the Caucasus Mountains, mostly in Chechnya but partly in Dagestan in the Russian Federation. It goes through Andiyskiy Khrebet (Andian Ridge). It is situated at an altitude of 1870 m above sea level and fills an area of 2.4 km². The maximum depth of the lake is 74 m. In winter the surface of the lake freezes and in summer the water temperature is around 5 °C. The lake water has a year-round supply of oxygen in which plankton survive. Salmo ezenami, a rare species of trout, are native only to the lake; however, their population is threatened with extinction due to the introduction of European chubs (Squalius cephalus) which consume the fry of the Salmo.[1]

Ownership[edit]

According to the regulations on land management, Dagestan owns two-thirds of the lake area. Geographic data and origins[edit]

Kezenoyam Highland Lake - the largest lake on the area of the North Caucasus, located on the border of the Vedeno district of Chechnya and Dagestan Botlikh district, on the southern slopes of the Andean mountain range, at an altitude of 1869 (1822 ) meters above sea level. surface of a lake - 2.4 km². Water Temperature[edit]

The water level in the lake every year varies depending on the number of outliers in its basin precipitation. The lake water is cold, the summer surface temperature does not rise above 17-18 degrees Celsius. The water temperature in the lower layers - about 7-8 degrees Celsius. In winter the lake freezes, the ice thickness in some years reached 70-80 centimeters.

Tourism and rest[edit]

April 18, 2015 in the Vedeno district of Chechnya opened tourist-recreational cluster "Kezenoi Am" on the shore of the eponymous lake. Sport and tourist complex includes a hotel with 58 rooms, luxury cottages with a total capacity of 40 people, a VIP cottage, a restaurant, a sauna, a sports complex area of 1200 square meters. m, playgrounds, boat station, pier and other facilities.

The project (2016) - the construction of the cable car, meeting rooms, food court, constructed in ethnographic style, children's entertainment complex. It is also planned to develop and implement equestrian, hiking, cycling and quad excursions, the construction of the tent camp.

Sport[edit]

In 1970-1980, on the lake located at the base of the Olympic team rowing USSR. During the military operations in the Czech Republic base was completely destroyed.

In 2015, the president of the Federation of rowing Russia Venianim Booth voiced plans to resume training on the rowing team Russia on Kezenoyame.

Flora and fauna[edit]

The lake is home to an endemic subspecies of salmon trout fish species- Salmo ezenami.

Research[edit]
