Band

The Lakeshore High School Marching Band has won three Michigan Competing Band Association, or MCBA, Flight III State Championships in 2002, 2003, and 2008. The band received the awards for Best Marching, Music, and General Effect in the 2008 season. The band has been state runner-up six times since 1996, second runner-up three times, and is a consistent state finalist. The band also hosts its own Lakeshore Marching Invitational.

In 2004 the band marched in the National World War II Memorial Dedication Parade on Memorial Day. The band was featured on the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw for their participation. Video can be found here.

The marching band attended the Fiesta Bowl in 2009, participating in the Fiesta Bowl Parade and Band Championship. The band also took part in the flag ceremony during Fiesta Bowl pre-game festivities. The band advanced to finals in the band championship, placing 6th.[3] In the Fiesta Bowl Parade, the marching band placed 6th in class B, second-to-last overall.[4]

The marching band was also offered a slot in the 2003 Tournament of Roses Parade but declined the invitation for unknown reasons.

During concert season the band divides into symphonic and concert bands, both of which attend MSBOA District Six band and orchestra festivals. The bands are split according to students musical ability at the director's discretion. The symphonic band includes the more advanced students and the concert band is open to all.

Choir

The Women of Lakeshore Choirs, along with their director, Kelly Ann Westgate, performed at the Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall in New York City on November 22, 2005. Performed were Gwyneth Walker's Songs For Women's Voices: "I Thank You God," and "Crossing the Bar." Nancy Menk of Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana conducted. The composer was in attendance.

Following the departure of Kelly Ann Westgate, Lakeshore Choirs continued their growth under Director Adam Wurst. From 2006-2009 the choirs recorded a CD entitled, "American Songs & Spirituals". The group also participated in a tour of NYC which included meeting Terita Redd during a Broadway Master Class, singing in a number of prominent churches, and participating in a 9/11 tour of Ground Zero. The choirs invited Ms. Redd back for their Spring Concert to work with students and to perform during the grand finale, "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray.

The choir program's select women's ensemble, Bella Voci, was invited to perform for Governor Jennifer Granholm in her personal residence, entertaining dignitaries during the Christmas season. An invitation was extended the following year and was attended by members of Bella Voci and Lakeshore's select group, Chorale. Both groups of students performed at the Michigan State Capitol and were graciously introduced on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Lakeshore Choir's vocal jazz group, KnightLife, was the first high school group to be invited to perform at the Box Factory for the Arts in downtown St. Joseph, Michigan. The group performed at this venue for two consecutive years and incorporated a cappella jazz ensemble as well as featured solos prepared by students of the group.

Lakeshore Choirs has a rich history of participating in the Southwest Michigan Vocal Music Festival, the longest running contiguous festival in the United States, on the campus of Western Michigan University. The Choirs are currently under the direction of Katherine Rohwer and continue to be actively involved in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA).
