Lapillus (Korean: 라필루스; RR: Rapilruseu; MR: Rap'ilrusŭ; stylized in all caps) is a South Korean girl group formed and managed by MLD Entertainment. The group is composed of six members: Chanty, Shana, Yue, Bessie, Seowon, and Haeun. They debuted on June 20, 2022, with the release of their digital single album Hit Ya!.

Name

On their debut showcase, member Seowon said that 'Lapillus' means "a gemstone that changes colors depending on the direction of the light and our catchphrase ‘Shine your Lapillus’ conveys the message that we should all find our own unique dreams."[1][2]

History

Pre-debut activities

Shana was a J-Group contestant on Girls Planet 999 where she competed at fourth place among the J-Group contestants and placed 16th overall.[3][4] Chanty is a former actress who was under Star Magic in the Philippines and previously appeared on dramas such as Hiwaga ng Kambat , I Got You and Starla.[5][6] Together with Shana, Chanty currently hosts a YouTube series called ChanSha World, which features the pair playing games and completing challenges, allowing fans to discover more about them ahead of their debut.[7]

2022–present: Introduction and debut with Hit Ya!

On May 16, 2022, MLD Entertainment announced that they would be debuting a new girl group, the first since Momoland in 2016 and they are also MLD's 3rd group after their first boy band T1419's debut in 2021.[8]The members were revealed in pairs (in order: Shana, Haeun, Seowon, Yue, Bessie, and Chanty) from May 23 to 25.[9][10][11] On June 13, MLD Entertainment announced that Lapillus would be releasing their debut single album Hit Ya! on June 20.[12]
