Series chronology

The Last of the Summer Wines twelfth series aired on BBC1. All of the episodes were written by Roy Clarke and produced and directed by Alan J. W. Bell.

With the departure of Michael Aldridge who had left to nurse his ill wife, the character of Foggy Dewhirst returned to the fold.

When Compo and Clegg inform Seymour that the caning of children in the UK was now illegal. Seymour is clearly disappointed by this news despite him knowing it about in the 1987 feature length episode "Big Day at Dream Acre."

Return of the Warrior	2 September	Compo and Clegg see Seymour off, ready to take up a post of headmaster. They then just keep missing a returning Foggy.	This episode marks the final appearance of Seymour and also, the returning appearance of Foggy (Having been absent since Series 8, 1985 five years before). The first episode featuring two of the 'third men', however they never meet.
Come In, Sunray Major	9 September	After a miscommunication leads to Foggy getting split up from Compo and Clegg, while out walking, he comes up with an idea - portable radios.
The Charity Balls	16 September	Compo, Clegg, Foggy, and Howard take part in sponsored football dribble for charity.
Walking Stiff Can Make You Famous	23 September	Foggy has come up with another idea, bicycle polo.
That's Not Captain Zero	30 September	After meeting Captain Zero, the human cannonball, the trio take him to the pub while his van is fixed. Unfortunately when he gets arrested for being drunk, it's up to Compo to take his place.	This Episode marks the last appearances of Clegg and Howard's original respective homes.
Das Welly Boot	7 October	Foggy decides to restore an old boat, and Compo knows who he wants to take on the first trip...Nora Batty.	From this episode thereafter, Clegg and Howard move to their new respective homes although still next door neighbours. They would remain there for the rest of the series, until the show's end (20 years later).
The Empire That Foggy Nearly Built	14 October	After seeing an argument over a parking space, Foggy decides there must be money to be made out of car parking.
The Last Surviving Maurice Chevalier Impression	21 October	Compo goes on a local TV program with his Maurice Chevallier impression.	Guest-featuring a then injury-recovering Gorden Kaye (of 'Allo 'Allo fame) as Maynard Lavery.
Roll On	28 October	The trio train for a barrel rolling event.
A Landlady for Smiler	4 November	The lads help Smiler find a new place to live.	This Episode marked (due to popularity 2 years before) of Smiler (whom became a regular character from this series onward until 2007).

The trio find him dressed as Santa Claus, under a table in the local pub	This episode marked the Last appearance of Barry whom returns 6 years later in the 1996 Christmas Special "Extra! Extra!" as Mike Grady left to pursue other TV projects of work at the time. This was the Last episode to use 16mm film for outdoor scenes until series 14. The next series was shot entirely on video tape.
