Life in Pieces is an American sitcom television series created by Justin Adler. CBS ordered the series on May 8, 2015.[1] The show debuted on September 21, 2015[2]

It airs Monday nights for its first few episodes before moving to Thursdays in November after CBS finishes its NFL broadcasts.[3]

Synopsis

The series will chronicle the life of a family as told from a point of view of each character based on their own version of events. These stories are told in four different segments, with some connections related to the characters' events.

In the first story Matt and Colleen return from their first date, but her ex-fiance (Jordan Peele) is still living at her house, and Matt is living with his parents Joan and John, so they end up getting caught having sex in the car. In the second story Jen's vagina is ripped during childbirth and needs her husband Greg's help in recovery. In the third story Tim and Heather tour a college campus for their son Tyler. In the hotel, their daughter Samantha gets her first period and their younger daughter Sophia learns Santa is not real. In the fourth story John celebrates his 70th birthday with a mock-funeral for himself. His children Matt, Greg and Heather participate with their families.

In the first story Joan calls the entire family together to talk after Matt walks in on her having sex with John. In the second story Matt has financial and car troubles while on his second date with Colleen. In the third story Jen has trouble producing breast milk for her baby. In the fourth story Heather has hired convicts to help the family move to a new house.

Reception

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports a 62% approval rating with an average rating of 6.6/10 based on 37 reviews. The website's consensus reads, "Life in Pieces' strong cast delivers funny, offbeat stories even if they're not always relatable."[9] On Metacritic, the series holds a score of 64 out of 100 based on 24 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews."[10]
