Striker Gifton Noel-Williams scored 7 goals in 52 league appearances for Burnley between 2005 and 2007.

Burnley Football Club is an English professional association football club based in the town of Burnley, Lancashire. Formed on 18 May 1882, the team originally played only friendly matches until they entered the FA Cup for the first time in 1885.[1] Burnley went on to become one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888 and have competed in the league ever since, with the exception of the 2009–10 season when they played in the Premier League.[W] The following list contains all the footballers who have played between 50 and 99 league matches during this time.

The team struggled in the early years of the Football League—twice having to apply for re-election—and were relegated to the Second Division at the end of the 1896–97 season.[2] Burnley achieved promotion back to the First Division in 1913, and the following year they won the FA Cup for the only time, defeating Liverpool in the final.[3] In the 1920–21 campaign, Burnley were crowned champions of England for the first time when they won the First Division. During that season the team embarked on a 30-match unbeaten run, which remained an English record until it was beaten by Arsenal who went undefeated throughout the 2003–04 campaign.[4] The club remained in the top tier of English football until 1930, when the team again suffered relegation to the Second Division, where they stayed until 1947. Burnley attained a second league championship in 1959–60, winning the title with a last-day victory over Manchester City.[5] In 1980, Burnley were relegated to the Third Division—the first time in their history they had played in the third tier of English football. Five years later, the team competed in the Fourth Division for the first time following another relegation, and on 9 May 1987 only a 2–1 win against Orient saved Burnley from relegation to the Football Conference.[6] Burnley won promotion in 1992 and again in 2000, before being promoted to the Premier League in 2009 via the play-offs.

  • Appearances and goals in expunged matches are not included. The two league matches played in the 1939–40 season were expunged after the campaign was abandoned following the outbreak of the Second World War.[7] Burnley's two games against Aldershot in 1991–92 were expunged after Aldershot resigned from the league mid-season.[8]
