Goud Saraswat Brahmins (GSB) have made significant contribution to a variety of fields like literature, business, sports, cinema, law, etc. The following is list of notable individuals belonging to GSB community (including its sub-communities)

Government and law

  • Manohar Parrikar, Indian politician & current Defence Minister of India. He is a metallurgical engineering graduate from IIT Bombay[1]
  • Suresh Prabhu, Indian politician & current Railway Minister of India. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession.[2]
  • Sir B. N. Rau, jurist (was judge on International Court in the Hague and President of United Nations Security Council. Prepared the original draft of Constitution of India. Also drafted Constitution of Burma (Myanmar) in 1947.)
  • Justice K. T. Telang (1850-1892) Judge Bombay High Court & Youngest Vice Chancellor of Bombay University. Exceptional legal mind, Educationist, Scholar of Sanskrit

Education & Literature

  • Purushottam Laxman Deshpande, popularly known as Pu. La. Deshpande, a notable writer and humorist. He was also an accomplished film and stage actor, music composer, harmonium player, singer, and orator.
  • Rashtrakavi M Govinda Pai, one of the greatest Kannada poets. Was fluent in 25 languages.
  • Anant Pai (1929-2011), fondly known as Uncle Pai, was an Indian educationalist and a pioneer in Indian comics.
  • Suryanath U. Kamath (1937-2015), was an Indian historian who served as the Chief Editor of the Karnataka State Gazetteer from 1981 to 1995.

  • Sachin Tendulkar, former Indian cricketer and captain. He is a recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan awards in 1999 and 2008, respectively, India's fourth and second highest civilian awards.[3]
