Rihanna's "Umbrella", which featured Jay-Z (right), was the chart's first number-one single.

The Canadian Hot 100 is a chart that ranks the best-performing singles of Canada. Published by Billboard magazine, its data are similar to Billboard's U.S.-based Hot 100 in that it compiles Nielsen SoundScan based collectively on each single's weekly physical and digital sales, as well as airplay. Canada's airplay chart is compiled with information collected from monitoring more than 100 stations that represent rock, country, adult contemporary and contemporary hit radio genres.[1] The online version of the chart features the Canadian flag next to tracks that qualify as Canadian content.[2][3] The Canadian Hot 100 chart was first issued on June 16, 2007.[1]

In 2007, eight singles topped the Canadian Hot 100. Timbaland's "Apologize", featuring OneRepublic, was the longest-running chart-topping single of 2007; it was the number-one single for the last nine weeks of 2007, and the first four weeks in 2008. The song was also the longest-running chart-topping single since the formation of the Canadian Hot 100 until 2009, when The Black Eyed Peas surpassed the record with "I Gotta Feeling". Rihanna's "Umbrella" stayed at number one for four straight weeks, while Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry", Timbaland's "The Way I Are", Plain White T's' "Hey There Delilah", and Kanye West's "Stronger" stayed at number one for three weeks; the latter two were non-consecutive. Timbaland was the only artist to have earned two number-one singles in 2007, and his singles were number-one for a combined 12 weeks.[4]

Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry" stayed in the number-one spot for three consecutive weeks in July.
